Debriefing: Blended Models

Reflection
Carla asked Bobby, a frequent sim facilitator, to provide feedback on her debriefing technique to a large group of experienced staff. Bobby noticed that when Carla poses questions to the group, she lets one person respond before proceeding to lecture. What should Bobby bring up when providing Carla with feedback?
A
Carla is a natural sim facilitator. As the debriefer, it’s important to have all the answers and fill in the participants’ knowledge gaps yourself.
B
Asking questions during the debrief is important. Your main responsibility as the sim facilitator is to help guide the conversation towards the scenario, and the learners’, learning objectives.
C
As there were many experienced staff members participating in the sim, choosing to employ more directive feedback as the debriefer is a wise choice. It keeps participants from going off-track or going on tangents.
